West Pier Ground Floor Refurbishment Project
Refurbishment of the 300m long West Pier Arrivals Corridor and former Passenger Gate Rooms.

The redundant Gate Rooms were refurbished to accommodate new ramp services for Male and Female Changing Rooms / First Aid Room / General Office Areas / Hot and Cold Kitchen Rest Rooms and Male & Female Toilets.
The initial work involved:
- A full survey of the Arrivals Corridor, including tracing, identifying and removal of all redundant MEP services that had been untouched since the airport opened in 1987.
- Removal of the existing suspended ceiling and all lighting.
- Paint spray of the concrete soffit and over cladding of existing plasterboard corridor walls with fire rated plasterboard to form a Fire Rated corridor.
- Installation of a new fully accessible metal trough ceiling with LED Lighting and Life Services incorporated within this.
- Removal of existing vinyl floor finishes and installation of a new high-quality vinyl flooring.
- Corridors were redecorated throughout with new stainless-steel skirtings on all walls.
All works were carried out during airport closure on weekdays and after weekend closure. The arrivals corridor had to remain operational at all other times during the refurbishment works with no disruption to LCY or passengers.
Works to old gate rooms / new refurbished rooms
The Old Gate Rooms were stripped back to shell and core and fitted out to accommodate new facilities including:
- New accommodation for Ramp Services for Male and Female changing rooms
- New First Aid Room
- General office areas
- Hot and Cold Kitchen Rest Rooms
- New Male & Female Toilets
- All new rooms were fitted out with new MEP / IT services along with new ceilings / lighting / Life services.
- New drywall partitions rooms built where required.
- New Floor finishes ranged from vinyl, carpet and ceramic tiles.
- New Stainless Kitchens were fitted in new hot and cold kitchen rest rooms.
All rooms were handed over on time and within budget and with no disruption to LCY or their staff.
