We were engaged at an early stage, which enabled us to assist LCY in the design of the new system.
To maintain fire cover during the installation process the new fire alarm system was fitted alongside the existing one. Once complete it was commissioned to run alongside the old system for an agreed period of time to make sure the new system operated correctly.
Once the new system had been fully tested and all training had been completed the old system was made redundant and stripped out. The nature of this project was highly sensitive and was carried out over a twelve month period. More than a 1,000 smoke heads were fitted with over six kilometres of cabling and containment, all of which were installed out of hours. The project was extremely successful and completed on time and on budget.
LCY remained fully operational throughout requiring a phased logistical approach and regular liaison and communication with the key stakeholders including Facilities Management, UK Power Networks, Airport Security, Airfield Operations & Safety Unit, ID unit, Customer Services Centre, Airport Fire Services, Flight Operation Handlers and Retail Concessions.
