BP Installations were appointed by Bechtel to carry out the Cable Diversion works.
The project involved:
- Re-routing two supplies comprising four LV supply cables, buried underground, onto a new cable rack, installed along the West Pier wall (Landside).
- This required the cables to be cut in the GIF area and extended up onto the ladder rack.
- The cables were located and identified using a Megger Cable Identifier, SEBA KMT kit.
- We used the ESSoW procedure to safely isolate the cables, allowing the cutting and splicing of the new rerouted cables.
- After cable jointing, the cables were tested before transfer and a new test was done on the cables to the confirm successful transfer.
The two supplies were completed over 2 weekends while the Airport was closed; there was no impact on Airport operations.
Ongoing communication between BPI, Bechtel’s PM and the Airport’s Duty Managers ensured a smooth transition and handover.
The programmed works were completed within the allocated timeframe to ensure that normal airport operations were not impacted when the airport re-opened for normal business.
